Tracie

Tracie, like Ania have been with Pencil Lines since 2007. Tracie is known for her amazing design work and teaching for Prima Marketing. Tracie also works on the DT for Sassafras Lass and Glitz. Tracie also contributed to Pencil Lines the Sketch Book.

Here is what Tracie had to say:

I am totally delighted to be part of Pencil Lines 4th Birthday celebrations and decided to select a sketch from Pencil Lines The Book.

Before I start putting a page together I always draw up sketches and have piles of note books scattered around just in case I get a sudden flash of inspiration. I have been known to use serviettes in the local restaurant, if for some reason my sketch pad isn’t at hand!

Tracie has chosen a favourite sketch from the Pencil Lines Sketch Book. Due to perosnal matters at home, Tracie was unable to provide a layout, so we are sharing Anna and Sue's layouts from the Pencil Lines Book. We would like to take this opportunity to wish Tracie and her family all the best.

Karola and Sketch 108

Karola joined the deisgn team this year, and her beautiful vintage style is recognized all over the scrapbooking world. You can see Karola's work on the Websters design team and Prima design team.

Here is what Karola had to say;

love the sketches, but that love has a short internship. It is thanks to Anna and her invitation to the Pencil Lines DT I had the opportunity to develop my skills to interpret the sketches! I am very grateful that she gave me the this amazing opportunity, because I loved working with sketches from the first sight! I love the most such a freedom of interpretation, but sometimes my versions are very similar and reflect the draft very clearly. Sometimes, however, I can freely compose a layout, a sketch is just an inspiration, a catalyst to lead the main lines and contour. And this is the coolest part in job with the sketch!

Jules and Sketch 160

Jules  joined Pencil Lines this year. Jules is from Australia and has 2 gorgeous girls who can been seen in most of her layouts!

Why I like sketches?
Sometimes I like to be able to create layouts without having to pre-plan and think about my design. This is where sketches come into play. At other times, I may have a paper I want to play with, but no idea what I want to do with it - so I will grab a sketch and go from there. And because I am not a card-maker, I will often use a sketch as the base design for my cards. I love sketches because they are so versatile - I use them as my jumping off point. I rarely follow a sketch exactly - I simply take from it what inspires me, then make it my own.

Sketch 209 and our founder Anna Bowkis

Hello Pencil Lines fans,

This is a really exciting and emotional time for me. 4 years ago I came up with an idea to draw sketches and share with my friends, and we would do a layout from the sketch. Four years later there are numerous sketch challenge blogs out there and we are still going strong. Pencil Lines published their first book this year, and although we had some teething problems, I am still proud of our achievement.

I am seriously hoping that a Pencil Lines part 2 will be available at the end of next year, lets just keep our fingers and toes crossed!

I am very blessed to have what I believe to be, the most talented design team out there. They inspire you and me each week with amazing design, techniques and colour week after week. It really does still amaze me how many interpretations one layout can produce!

Sasha and Sketch 100

Sasha joined Pencil Lines this year, and her sassy style resembles her nickname so well; Sassy Sasha! Sasha is a forces wife and has recently moved to the UK.

Here is what Sasha had to say:

Hey  guys .. well if you know me then you know I use to dislike sketches because I just could not really figure out how to make them my own without my pages looking stiff like. So I started to alter them to focus still on my style while still trying to stay true to some of the elements of the sketch. I just use them as blue prints sort of. 

I chose Sketch 100 again this year because well it is my all favorite. Last year I stayed true to the sketch and used circles and kept the photo centered. This year I added a shaped edge paper to the far side and used some butterflies instead.

Larissa and Sketch 43

Larissa joined Pencil Lines this year, and has definitley caused alot of excitement within the scrapping world with her amazing flair for design! Larissa is on numerous manufacture design teams, and has temaed up with Hambly to bring her interpretation of sketch 43.

Here is what Larissa had to say:

"Sketches are wonderful tools for our creativity. Through them, we can already see beforehand where we position every element of our page and adequate the design to our supplies.

Sketches are also very versatile. We can adapt them, turn over, invert, increase or decrease its size, substitute elements, accentuate one or another, adapting them to our style.

It is right that when making use of the sketches, we end up obtaining new designs for our works, making them more creative".

Iris and Sketch 76

The lovely Iris joined the Pencil Lines design team this year and is a Memory Makers Master 08. Iris was a contributor to the Pencil Lines Sketch Book.

Iris chose sketch 76, here is what she had to say;  

I love using sketches because it provides great inspiration and does not limit one's creativity. I chose this sketch because of the white space. This allows one more freedom in interpreting the sketch. I lowered the placement of the photo a little, substituted the circle for the tree, and the lines for the picket fence. After the main design was done, I just added bits of this and that to complete the look I wanted to achieve.
